What are regional hospitals really like?

🩺 When I started recruiting doctors in Australia over 15 years ago, the phrase “regional hospital” painted a very specific picture in my mind.

I imagined vast open spaces, one-street towns, and maybe the odd tumbleweed rolling by. Not much happening… and not much in them.
But the reality? It couldn’t be more different.

Over the years, I’ve placed doctors in most if not all regional hospitals across the country — and what I’ve discovered is that each town is completely unique. They’re vibrant, welcoming, and full of energy. These communities have great food scenes, active arts hubs, and strong local cultures. Life is happening in these places — not passing by.

And the best part? Many of these towns are just a couple of hours from major cities. You can have the best of both worlds — space, lifestyle, and career opportunity, without losing touch with the city.

If you’re curious about what working in regional Australia could look like, feel free to reach out. I’d love to share what I’ve seen and connect you with doctors currently living the regional dream.
